The types of ropes

rope, Uncategorized

Rope is a product obtained by weaving together fibers that has many uses. Various materials such as hair, nylon, linen, wool, hemp, polypropylene, polyethylene, polystyrene, etc. are used in the production of ropes. The texture and nature of the rope is determined by the color, fineness, stiffness, strength and elasticity of the fibers or strands used in its construction. In this article, we will introduce the types of rope and introduce you to the specifications of this product.

Types of rope

Ropes are divided into natural and synthetic categories. The use of ropes is different based on the material, properties, color, elasticity and other things. Natural ropes are softer and have good elasticity, but they are weaker than synthetic or plastic ropes. “Synthetic ropes, which are made from synthetic polymers, are more resistant.”

All kinds of natural ropes

Environmentally friendly materials are used in the production of natural ropes and there are no chemicals in the structure of this type of rope. Natural ropes have high strength, but they are not as resistant as synthetic ropes and are damaged by various types of mold and UV rays. Unlike synthetic ropes, this type of rope is not damaged by exposure to sunlight and high heat, but flames cause them to burn. One of the disadvantages of natural ropes is that they shrink when wet and become very difficult to work with after drying. These ropes are more environmentally friendly than synthetic ropes.

Introduction of natural rope types

Hemp rope: This rope is made of natural plants and is in the form of intertwined strands. The roughness of this rope is quite clear even from the photo. One of the advantages of this rope is its high resistance to sea water salinity. Therefore, they use it in boating, tying timber and all kinds of lifts. Under the influence of the sun’s UV rays, hemp rope gradually rots and disappears, and therefore, compared to synthetic ropes, it does not harm nature. Today, natural hemp rope is not only used in light lifting connections such as drilling wells, but also in the production of various products such as ropes used in circuses due to the proper friction, production of flexible ladders and nets, and also has wide applications in the field of decoration. . In the same way that natural hemp ropes are used today to connect household vases and even to connect ceiling chandeliers.

Manila rope: Manila hemp is a type of fiber obtained from the leaves of the abacá plant. The name of this rope is taken from the name of the capital of the Philippines (Manila). Manila rope is very durable, flexible and resistant to salt water (sea water), which makes it possible to use it in shipping and fishing ropes. Elsewhere, it can be used to make handicrafts such as bags, carpets, clothes, furniture and pendants. Manila ropes are found in the market with a more limited variety than synthetic ropes and even hemp, and they are also used as cores in some applications of tow wires.

Types of synthetic ropes

Synthetic ropes, as the name suggests, are made of synthetic materials. These ropes are also known as plastic ropes and materials such as nylon, polyester and polypropylene are used in their production. Synthetic ropes are much more durable than natural ropes and that is why they are so popular. Plastic ropes typically last longer than natural ropes and become stronger when wet. Also, these ropes are less damaged by molds and UV rays than the natural type. Among the disadvantages of this type of rope, we can mention that they melt in front of enough heat and their resistance decreases. Also, the production of synthetic ropes causes more damage to the environment than the natural type.

Introduction of artificial ropes based on gender

Plastic rope: They are made of plastic or polypropylene and are used for things like everyday, industrial, residential, marine activities, sailing, connecting advertising banners, gardening, handicrafts and many other things.

Polyethylene rope: This rope has mechanical strength, high durability, light weight, and therefore easy handling, non-perishability and resistance to salts in sea water. The high-quality polyethylene rope does not rot or fray.

Polypropylene rope: Due to its high strength and unique features, this rope can be used in agriculture, shipbuilding and other industries in addition to general use. In the construction of this rope, polypropylene materials are used, which, in addition to their high quality and strength, float on water. Polypropylene rope is widely used in various industries, especially in the fishing industry.

Hemp rope: This type of rope, which is also known as Bangladesh and jute, has natural fibers and is produced in twisted and woven form. This rope is used in buildings, houses and decorations.

Nylon rope: when plastic rope is produced in twisted form, it is called nylon rope and it is used in the marine industry because of its characteristics.

Cotton rope: There are ropes that do not use synthetic materials in their production and have high resistance to heat, but humidity, mold and rays damage them.

Polysteel rope: This rope is made by twisting extruded single strands of quality polyethylene and polypropylene materials. These types of ropes do not have domestic examples and are known as imported Korean or foreign ropes in Iran. Lavan Baft company has the honor of being the only producer of all kinds of polyester ropes in Iran and produces these ropes at the highest quality level.

Introduction of artificial rope types based on application

Climbing rope: As its name suggests, it is used by climbers. These ropes are one of the most important items for climbing and descending and are produced in different types.

Packing rope: This rope is used for household purposes and has many uses. This rope has advantages such as reasonable price, various colors and availability.

Fishing rope: This type of rope is used for marine use and cabling in telecommunications. Fishing rope has advantages such as reasonable price, resistance and strength, electrical insulation, no water absorption and convenient operation for fishing and telecommunication.

Mooring rope: Mooring rope is used in the shipping industry for various purposes and is produced in various sizes. This type of rope is usually used to erect a tent, prevent the mast from falling, and to transport up to 580 kg. The cover of this rope is soft and smooth. The weight of this type of rope is extremely light and it is very easy to carry it in personal belongings, that’s why rock climbers who have to hang in the air for some time in some parts of the mountain also get help from this rope with a ring. The polyester coating of this rope guarantees its resistance to high heat. The combination of the colors of this type of rope is very suitable for coexistence with the natural environment. For example, gray color is suitable for being hidden on the ground, or yellow color is suitable for missing people to be seen at night.

Towing rope: This rope, which has two loops sewn at the beginning and end, is very suitable for carrying heavy objects or even towing a car. Towing rope or steel rope is produced by twisting wires together and is used in cases such as harnessing, load control, in mines, cranes, bicycle brakes and load maintenance. This type of belt has very high strength due to the woven material along the length of the belt and is able to pull any heavy object forward without slipping around. Therefore, by taking this belt with you on your travels, you don’t have to worry about your equipment or vehicle getting stuck.

To identify plastic rope, pay attention to the following:

  • transparency
  • flexibility
  • Elasticity and elasticity
  • Softness and flexibility
  • Low density

Methods of producing all kinds of ropes

Different methods are used to produce rope. This product can be produced in 2 ways:

Woven method: The woven rope consists of two parts, the rope covering and the rope core. This product can be produced with natural fibers and synthetic fibers and has the ability to be produced with several coatings. Compared to the woven rope, even if both products are made with the same type of raw materials, the woven method has a higher wear resistance. Keep in mind that the product produced in this method works more flexibly.

Woven method: This product is made from two to four threads and can be produced with natural and synthetic fibers. Twisted rope has higher tensile strength compared to woven rope; For this reason, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan.
